SPARTA News November 2002

November 2002
SPARTA Chapter Presidents Corner
- by Brad Carson
Another busy month, whew. Im happy to say that our SNA Enterprise Extender project is completed. Our DBA's are happy that they have their DB2s all taking to each other via LU6.2 and we can get OPC (or TWS, its new name) on each system to talk to each other (it wont do IP, only LU6.2). It has also made our NJE sessions and Connect:DIRECT sessions more stable. We can now get to any of our TSO, CICS, MOBIUS, and NETVIEW applications from any of our OS/390 systems!
Well, our CICS MRO work is still progressing; we had to step back and apply a little maintenance to CICS (TS 1.3 in our case). Since we have SMP/E 3.1 installed, I figured I'd try to use the RECEIVE FROMNETWORK to get the service. Sorry, but nogo for us, we don't have the required Crypto hardware on our HDS system. So I downloaded the maintenance to a HFS directory and used the RECEIVE FROMNTS instead. Not too bad. Used it for the whole CICS ESO receive that was ordered through Shop zSeries.
One new project I have to work on is the replacement of the STARTOOL utility with the goodies from the CBT web site. Our director just doesnt want to pay $80K+ for annual maintenance anymore, no matter how much we tell him that this tool is needed. Oh well so much for our productivity.
This month Ed Webb from SAS Institute will be giving us a presentation on SAS upgrade to z/OS 1.3. I look forward to seeing you all on the 19th at SAS off I-40 in Cary. Deli tray, drinks, and dessert will be provided.

IBMLink 2000 on the Web
contributed by Ed Webb
There is a new web version of IBMLink named IBMLink 2000 release 2.1. Heres IBMs notice about it:
10/21/2002 - We are pleased to announce the availability of IBMLink 2000 Release 2.1 for registered IBMLink users in the United States. IBMLink 2000 is an updated version of the present IBMLink using IBM's Websphere products. It features a tailorable portal, a new sign on system using IBM Registration (IR) as a base, and one click access to IBMLink programs. The applications included in this release are all of the ServiceLink applications (ASAP, AST, ETR, PCR, PSP, SIS, SRD), Feedback, LIA/BP, SERVOPPS, Schedules (with three new functions), and two MRPD applications (MRReport and SCL). You might notice a slight difference in the way you navigate through the applications with the new "look and feel", but the functionality of the applications and the way you have been using them to run your business is the same. We encourage you to get an IR user ID today and begin migrating to the new IBMLink 2000 release. Further improvements are underway to continue to enhance your IBMLink experience. Why not give IBMLink 2000 a try today? For more information, click here.

Dr. Phil Personality Test
contributed by Chris Blackshire
Dr. Phil gave this test on Oprah; she got a 38. Some folks pay a lot of money to find this stuff out.
Read on, this is very interesting! Don't be overly sensitive! The following is pretty accurate. And it only takes 2 minutes.
Don't peek but begin the test as you scroll down and answer. Answers are for who you are now..... not who you were in the past.
Have pen or pencil and paper ready. This is a real test given by the Human Relations Dept. at many of the major corporations today. It helps them get better insight concerning their employees and prospective employees.
It's only 10 simple questions, so...... grab a pencil and paper, keeping track of your letter answers.
Ready?? Begin...

3. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 5 (d) 7 (e) 6
4. (a) 4 (b) 6 (c) 2 (d) 1

9. (a) 7 (b) 6 (c) 4 (d) 2 (e) 1
10. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 6 (f) 1
Now add up the total number of points.
OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should "handle with care". You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.
51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who's quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.
41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.
31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust is ever broken.
21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They
think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature.
UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions & who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything. They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist. Some people think you're boring. Only those who know you well know that you aren't.
