SPARTA News September 2002

September 2002
SPARTA Chapter Presidents Corner
- by Brad Carson
If I said last month was busy, it was an understatement. We managed to relocate our QAAD LPAR from RTP to Burlington during the weekend of August 17. What a long, long weekend that was. We did have a little visit from Murphy, but still were able to complete the move (whew!!!).
During our QAAD move, we had a lot of fun using the ExHPDM product to stack our FDR backups on tape. Yes, we rebuilt this system via tape from RTP to Koury. We also had some fun with a corrupt ICF usercatalog (who needs test data sets). But we have weathered the storm and are moving on to other projects, some interesting and others not.
Due to some employee turnover, I received the honor of picking up the DB2 sysprog work. I guess I'll have to make some time to work with our DBA staff now alongside everything else. We still are looking a bringing in a system to handle some Linux server consolidation (I still have my fingers crossed for z/VM). Along with this, I'm currently working on converting our CICS regions to MRO, and trying to configure Enterprise Extender between our two systems (time to convert to APPN!!!). As always there is something to keep me busy here.
This month Tommy Thomas from LabCorp will be giving us a presentation on our conversion from CA-TLMS to IBMs RMM. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, September 24th, at LabCorp RTP. Pizza, drinks, and dessert will be provided.
